As a 45 year old woman who has fought the battle of the bulge her whole life, I have a lot of anger, insight, and advice.
There isn’t a diet that I haven’t tried: Jenny Craig, Nutri-System (I did lose weight, but the food was awful), Weight Watchers, Low Carb, Body Cleanse, Hot Dog Diet, Grapefruit, and so on… I’ve even had liposuction and I’m still struggling.
I’m angry at my mom because when I was young, she didn’t teach me about healthy eating. I’m angry at processed foods for tasting so good, being so easy to prepare, and for giving me high blood pressure due to the sodium content. And I’m angry at menopause for making changes to my body that I can’t control, like slowing down my metabolism, making me thicker around the middle, and giving me large saggy breasts.
We women have enough to worry about today. An extra-large ass should not be one of them! Are you as tired as I am of looking at how big your butt is? A large bottom side can be stressful for many reasons. The psychological problems of having a big fanny can be devastating. You may feel that you can’t get promoted at work, that you don’t get invited to do fun things, that people avoid you or are mean to you. You may even feel as though you can’t find a date, all because your butt has gotten too big. A big butt can be expensive! That includes things like buying new clothes that you REALLY do not want and do not want to wear. Have you ever felt better about buying a new pair of jeans two or three sizes up from your last pair? Does this sound familiar? Ughhhh. We will not even get into the health risks here, as there are too many to name.
Does your tush seem to be getting bigger faster than your belly? You’re right! Fat accumulates faster on/in your keister than it does on your stomach, especially after you reach 35 years of age. The composition of the fat is the same, but your body treats the fat differently and thus targeting the fat on your bottom requires a completely different approach than targeting the fat on your stomach. Targeting fat on your butt for fat loss is much more difficult than your belly. I have been dealing with this for years. It’s the worst.
LAY OFF THE CRAP FOOD AND WATCH YOUR BOOTY GET BETTER, NOT BIGGER.
Fat is distributed differently on women than it is on men. How your body distributes fat, if you are a woman, is based on your genetic disposition, i.e., your race, and your heredity. When a woman eats too much bad or fatty foods, it goes straight to the butt and hips. Soda, sweet tea, fast food, dessert, fried ANYTHING, burgers… do you get the point? This is unlike the fat distribution in a man, where that fat goes to his stomach and chest. Have you noticed that when you gain just a few pounds you can no longer fit into your favorite jeans? That is why. It makes you sick, doesn’t it?
The worst thing about butt fat that it is tough to get off after you stack it on!! Your booty is ultra-sensitive to certain types of exercise. If you start a daily work-out routine, you might not have much luck with your rear-end. A lot of women say that their face, cheeks, and stomach get tinier but not their butt. Spot exercising simply does not work. I am referring to the machines on TV that directly target your ass. Bummer. I have tried them and they are crap. Believe me, crap.

I do have some advice if any of this sounds familiar. And I have lost some weight! We all know that we need to burn more calories than we consume, work out, and eat healthy. We need to stop eating more than we’re eating right now. One thing you can do is stay to the perimeter of the grocery store; don’t go down the chip isle at all! But I did find something that has helped me to eat less by making me feel fuller.
